My Neighbor Totoro

Mei & Satsuki

Below is a list of the main characters in the My Neighbor Totoro film and a brief description of their character ..

Mei
Mei is a curious five year old girl who is happy most of the time but sometimes is upset as she misses her mother. Mei is the first to meet Totoro and when she gets lost tring to sgo to her mother, it is Totoro and Neko Bus who help elder sister Satsuki find her.

Satsuki
Satsuki is an open minded eleven year old who has taken on more rsponsibility since her mother was taken ill. She is an outgoing and happy child and is able to make friends quickly although she is unsure about Kanta at first.

Mr Kusakabe
Mr Kusakabe is Satsuki and Mei’s father who works as a University Professor.

Mrs Kusakabe
Mrs Kusakabe is the mother of Satsuki and Mei. The family moved house to be closer to the hospital where she is staying due to tuberculosis.

Totoro
Totoro is the Guardian Of The Forest and is visible only to the children. He has the ability to dissapear and become visible as he wants, is able to fly, can make plants grow as well as being able to contact Neko Bus.

Neko Bus (Catbus)

Neko Bus (Cat Bus)
Neko Bus can move at the speed of light, run over tree tops and on telephone wires. People are unaware that Neko Bus is around as they just geel a slight breeze as he passes.

Chu Totoro & Chibi Totoro
Chu Totoro and Chibi Totoro are minature versions of Totoro and are also guardians of the forest.

Susa-Ataris
These are little black dust balls who like to live in quiet, dark locations. They are scared of humans and run and hide when humans are around.

Kanta
Kanta is the next door neighbor of Mei and Satsuki and also attends the same school as Satsuki.
